The project reinterprets the “Spirit of San Jose” through a comprehensive and energy-efficient design intervention that integrates architecture, landscape, and transportation within Arena Green Park. The proposal introduces four iconic landmarks, each embodying key values of innovation, resilience, connectivity, and sustainability.
1) Alpha–Omega Amphitheater (Arena Green West)
The Alpha–Omega Amphitheater symbolizes renewal and transformation, inspired by the imagery of a phoenix rising from the ashes. At its core, the (α) sculpture is set within the (Ω)-shaped amphitheater, featuring a rotating platform that represents the idea that every ending leads to a new beginning. This multifunctional structure accommodates public events, social gatherings, and recreational use, including elevated jogging pathways that offer varied perspectives of the park. The (α) sculpture is constructed from RXF1, a recycled polyethylene material, reinforcing the project’s sustainability agenda. The upper ring of the amphitheater is integrated with solar panels to generate renewable energy. Adjacent to the amphitheater, new playground facilities are introduced to enhance family-friendly engagement.
2) San Jose Water Feature (Arena Green East)
This feature celebrates versatility and creativity through an interactive landscape composed of vibrant mosaic tiles, programmable water jets, and integrated seating. Utilizing treated recycled greywater, the water jets are choreographed to create dynamic displays that encourage play and recreation. Stepped seating surrounding the installation provides areas for rest and social interaction. In addition, outdoor energy-generating gym equipment is incorporated, promoting physical activity while contributing power to the operation of the water features.
3) Infinity Bridge
Connecting the eastern and western zones, the Infinity Bridge embodies the concept of limitlessness and innovation. Its elegant, sweeping steel form reflects the boundless vision associated with entrepreneurship and forward-thinking communities, while also serving as a vital pedestrian link across the park.
4) Futuristic Eco Trailers
The Eco Trailers represent mobility and flexibility, functioning as movable retail units for coffee, ice cream, pastries, and souvenirs. By eliminating the need for permanent underground utilities such as drainage and cabling, these units reduce construction impact and increase adaptability. Equipped with solar panels and small-scale wind turbines, the trailers generate sufficient on-site energy to support their operations.
Additional sustainable infrastructure includes hybrid windmills integrated with solar panels and lighting poles along the park perimeter. Fiber optic lighting is installed along the riverfront and key pathways to create a safe, inviting, and atmospheric environment during evening hours. Together, these design elements form a cohesive and environmentally responsive masterplan, transforming Arena Green Park into a series of vibrant, functional landmarks.
