The project transforms a vacant office into a co-working environment for the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong, creating a functional, comfortable, and environmentally responsible workplace for users and stakeholders.
1) Spatial Organization for Better Work and Wellbeing
An axial circulation spine provides clear and efficient movement throughout the office. The reception area transitions into casual seating areas for informal discussion and collaboration, while varied work settings accommodate different working styles.
A communal kitchen serves as both a pantry and informal meeting space, connecting directly to two multi-purpose rooms for events, meetings, and group activities. Private telephone booths and a relaxation room provide spaces for focused work, rest, and confidential conversations. Workstations and the conference area are positioned near windows to maximize natural daylight.
Together, these spaces support focus, collaboration, privacy, social interaction, and wellbeing.
2) Healthy, Sustainable, and Flexible Design
Corporate Social Responsibility is integrated throughout the design. A free drinking fountain and water purification system encourage healthy habits, while low-VOC and low-vinyl finishes improve indoor environmental quality. Existing suspended ceilings containing formaldehyde are removed and replaced with an open-ceiling concept, creating greater spatial openness.
Drywall partitions and modular cabinetry allow spaces to be reconfigured as needs change. Workstations can be added, removed, or rearranged; areas can shift between individual work, team collaboration, and meeting space; and the multi-purpose rooms can support different programs and group sizes without major reconstruction. This reduces future renovation waste, cost, and disruption.
Fans and air purifiers improve air quality, while motion sensors reduce unnecessary energy consumption. The design follows BEAM Plus as a benchmark for environmental performance and responsible practice.
Value Added — A Workplace That Can Evolve
The project creates a workplace that can change with the organization. As teams, work patterns, and activities evolve, the same space can be reorganized to support different combinations of workstations, meeting areas, collaborative spaces, and community activities.
The result is a healthier, more efficient, and flexible workplace that remains useful and relevant over time.
