The project involves the interior renovation of a vacant office space into a co-working environment for the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong. The design delivers a functional, comfortable, and environmentally responsible workspace that is efficient for both users and stakeholders.
A key design focus is Corporate Social Responsibility. Features include private telephone booths, a relaxation room for rest or confidential conversations, and a pantry equipped with a free drinking fountain and water purification system. Environmentally friendly materials are prioritized, such as interior finishes with low VOC and vinyl content. Wall paints, coverings, and carpet tiles are selected to minimize or eliminate VOC emissions. Existing suspended ceilings containing formaldehyde are removed, and an open-ceiling concept is introduced to enhance perceived headroom and spatial openness.
An axial circulation spine organizes movement throughout the office. A communal kitchen serves as both a pantry and an informal meeting space, directly connected to two multi-purpose rooms to support events and gatherings. The reception area transitions into casual seating zones that encourage informal discussions and collaborative work. The co-working space offers a variety of seating arrangements to support different working styles. Formal workstations and a conference area are positioned near windows to maximize natural daylight. Traditional blinds are replaced with high-performance fabrics that diffuse glare and UV rays while distributing light evenly. These materials are anti-static and help reduce heat and sound transmission from the exterior.
To enhance construction efficiency and sustainability, drywall partitions and modular cabinetry are used to minimize waste and reduce installation time. Air quality is improved through the use of fans and air purifiers, while motion sensors are installed to reduce unnecessary energy consumption. The design adheres to BEAM Plus standards as a benchmark for environmental performance and best practices.
