In response to the growing demand for quality long-term care services in Macau, our returning client commissioned the design of an innovative and iconic landmark building. Situated in a prime location in Coloane, the 8-storey comprehensive development integrates retail spaces, a convention center, an innovation hub, workshops, elderly residences, and serviced apartments.
Concept
The design concept draws inspiration from the figure of an “angel” — a spiritual messenger widely associated with peace, joy, and benevolence. The building embodies this symbolism through its symmetrical form, which enhances both structural efficiency and flexibility in interior planning. The angelic form also communicates the project’s mission: providing comfort to the elderly and guidance to the community.
Sustainability
Vertical green walls and outdoor landscaping are strategically incorporated to mitigate the urban heat island effect. Rooftop solar panels and small-scale wind turbines provide renewable energy, improving the building’s overall energy efficiency. These measures, combined with careful site planning and sustainable material selection, support a healthier and more environmentally responsible built environment.
Functionality
The mixed-use program balances community engagement with residential care, offering spaces for social interaction, innovation, and wellness. Elderly residents benefit from thoughtfully designed living areas, while the public can access retail, workshops, and convention facilities, making the development both socially meaningful and economically vibrant.
