The Hong Kong Institute of Architects initiated a new design and construction tender for its premises, following its last renovation in the 1990s. Our team responded with a proposal focused on spatial efficiency, optimized seating arrangements, enhanced meeting facilities, and sustainable design strategies.
The layout clearly separates functions by grouping all meeting facilities at one end of the premises, while locating administrative offices at the opposite end to minimize cross-circulation and improve operational efficiency. The main lobby is designed with flexibility in mind, allowing it to be easily reconfigured into a dedicated exhibition space.
The HKIA Room and ARB Room are positioned adjacent to each other and separated by acoustic folding partitions. This arrangement allows the rooms to function independently for smaller events or be combined into a larger venue to accommodate major functions.
A permanent public lecture hall with formal seating is incorporated to host regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events. This space is also designed with adaptability, enabling it to be converted into an additional exhibition gallery when required. An open pantry with an adjoining casual lounge provides an inviting space for both staff and visitors. It supports leisure reading and informal interaction, with integrated cabinetry for the display of journals and publications.
