This project involved the interior fit-out of the Po Leung Kuk Neighborhood Elderly Centre at Ching Long Shopping Mall, Kai Ching Estate, providing activity facilities for the local elderly community. The project was executed under K&W Architects Ltd. as the Authorized Person.
The premises were handed over in a bare shell condition, offering a blank canvas for design. The project’s theme —“Nature” and “Eco-friendly”— was chosen to create a warm, calming, and comfortable environment for elderly users. Timber finishes were used extensively to reinforce a natural ambience, complemented by a warm color palette. High-efficiency LED lighting, low VOC wall paints, and vinyl floor sheets were selected to promote sustainability and minimize health impacts.
Flexible design elements, such as movable partitions in the main hall, allow the space to be subdivided into smaller breakout rooms, enabling multiple activities to occur simultaneously.
The construction was completed within 50 days, on schedule and within budget. The opening ceremony was officiated by the Director of the Social Welfare Department, highlighting the center’s importance to the community.
