Philia Earth involved in the early concept design stage of this project for the application of funding and location selection. Inspired by the Salvation Army’s 11 Articles of Faith, our team selected Matthew 5:14 as the guiding principle for the design of this new early childhood education center. The vision was to create a nurturing environment that trains children to become future leaders while ensuring they feel comfortable, happy, and healthy—truly treating the center as their second home.
The design follows the four classical preschool design ideals established by Kennedy (1991):
-
Home-like environment;
-
Unfinished character;
-
Seamless connection between natural and built environment; and
-
Balanced spatial arrangements.
The center emphasizes inclusivity and sensitivity to children with special needs. Differentiated spaces, varied ceiling heights, and contrasting wall colors were implemented to enhance cooperative behavior and social interaction, following principles identified by Read, Sugawara, and Brant (1999).
The result is a nurturing, engaging environment that fosters learning, leadership, and social growth from an early age.
